Changes to my study programme

Helloo again! Today my post will be about changes I would make to my study programme of Cine & TV in the University of Chile.
To be honest, in these 2 years that I’ve been in the career, I’ve been gathering many ideas of things that I think are quite poorly organized in the curriculum. And in itself, there’s many other problems with the career that I’ve noticed they should be putting on the table to discuss and fix as soon as possible.
To begin with, the curriculum is quite poorly done in my opinion. As film students, we hope that in first year they will teach us the necessary bases to be able to put together a short film (because that is what they ask you in each semester of the same first year). Within that, I would include direction of actors, production, direction of art, among others in the program of the first year. And I would also delay a few years the classes of basic training that we share with journalism since, although I find that they are important for our training as professionals, they are less important in terms of what we are really in a hurry to know in order to make a short film correctly. Because of that, there are too many theoretical courses that aren't as imporant as the practical ones.
The classes that I’ve named are not included until much later (actor directing is touched in brushstrokes in second year, art direction at least if it is a proper class, and production is only taught in third year, which seems to me really incompressible because these are things that we need to learn in advance to carry out a shoot, especially in second year).
On the other hand, I believe that it’s also necessary to fix the hours of dedication planned for some classes, since in many areas the hours dedicated are almost three times the amount planned, according to the credits.
Another thing that I think it would be good to fix, in this current era of pandemic, would be a better online class training for teachers and a more organized and planned (especially for students from regions) return to face-to-face classes safely. Following that, for film students it would be nice if there was more planning for the use of equipment and free use of it on the campus.
I think that’s everything I can think of for now. Ty for reading! Let’s hope some of the things I named could be arranged in the future.

  2. As a cinema student I totally agree with you, the first year of our career is a real mess, many thing that should be taught at that moment are delayed and the subjects that we share with journalism are really time consuming
